Rival fall away6/2/2023 I was very happy to get chapters from each of them this time.ġ4 errors. Other than the OP ones, they are very hot! Characters are 18 and in their summer before starting college.ġst person past tense from Fallon and Madoc. Don’t miss it!Īgain, I had a big problem with having to read detailed sex scenes with Other People! Ewwww!Ĭontains graphic sex scenes. You have to read the dedication! It’s a hilarious and cute poem, “To Hubs”. This is a re-read, so it must be 5 stars. But Madoc brings out the spunk and humor in her. Fallon is grittier, darker, and more damaged. They have fun together, and I got their connection. I loved the witty verbal sparring between Madoc and Fallon. But Fallon has a queen bitch evil mother. I loved Tate’s dad, and Jared’s mother was getting there, working on it. That’s what he wants, right? As long as I keep my guard up, he’ll never know how much he affects me….įallon and Madoc have another love to hate to love story filled with secrets and misunderstandings. Two years and I can tell he still wants me, even if he acts like he’s better than me.īut I won’t be scared away. I was stupid then, but now I’m ready to beat her at her own game… Back when we lived in the same house, she used to cut me down during the day and then leave her door open for me at night. Two estranged teenagers playing games that push the boundaries between love and war…įor the two years she’s been away at boarding school, there was no word from her.

The woman in the window a novel6/2/2023 What is real? What is imagined? Who is in danger? Who is in control? In this diabolically gripping thriller, no one-and nothing-is what it seems. Post office by charles bukowski6/2/2023 In the final section of this book, Chinaski describes waking up from another binge. He's too stupefied to do much more than tweak the postal tyrants and subtly defy the bureaucratic insanity, as he pushes the empty fifths under the bed. But boozing Hank hardly notices through the haze of his hangover and the exhausting drudgery of work. But the book also has a sad undertone, with Hank floating through life and letting good things slip away, such as women who make him happy or time with his baby daughter. POST OFFICE is a funny novel with frequent laugh-out-loud moments. That's Hank Chinaski, the wily but nonchalant protagonist of the hilarious POST OFFICE, who is depressed by (but dependent on) a job in which ".all you moved was your right arm." Remember the smart but passive guy in your high school math class who did no work, attracted a certain kind of girl, always had a little money for beer, skipped school when it suited him, and didn't treat teachers as authority figures? Well, imagine that same guy 30 years later, working in the post office sticking mail.

The sun does shine hinton6/2/2023 For his first three years there, Ray doesn’t speak to anyone-he is consumed by despair, loses his belief in God, and even contemplates committing suicide. Because of the extremely racist treatment and poor defense he receives, Ray is sentenced to Alabama’s death row. The police chief, Lietuenant Acker Prosecutor Bob McGregor and Ray’s first lawyer, Sheldon Perhacs, all make openly racist comments to him, and Ray’s poverty means that he has trouble paying for a proper defense. Over the course of the trial, Ray faces severe-and often overt-discrimination for being Black and poor. Ray has a strong alibi for one of the incidents, and the supposed murder weapon, Ray’s mom’s gun, hasn’t been fired in years, but the authorities refuse to consider this. But on July 31, 1985, 29-year-old Ray’s life changes drastically when the police arrest him for a series of murders that Ray didn’t commit. He loves his mom, has a strong Christian faith, and wants to find a nice girl to settle down with and marry. In Ray’s early life, he lives in Praco, Alabama. Anthony Ray Hinton, who goes by Ray, is the author and protagonist of The Sun Does Shine.

Disappearing earth goodreads6/1/2023 How did you feel about Lada’s chapter in hindsight, knowing that Yegor, the man she almost ended up sleeping with, was the kidnapper? Marked spoilers follow for anyone who’s finished the story: A lot of it is very relatable and easy to understand.īut while it isn’t your typical thriller/mystery story, it does eventually give a satisfying and suspenseful climax, and I flew through the last fifty pages. Julia does a nice job of presenting these vastly different women from different stages of life in a way that is believable and entertaining, and without getting too much into spoiler territory yet, the issues dealt with range from the loss of loved ones, to the effects of dangerous or traditional masculinity on women, to being bored with life, to reconciling differences between how you and others see loved ones-just to name a few. Each point of view has only one chapter, and many times the point of view ends before the character’s conflict is dealt with (although some are tied up or hinted at in other chapters from a different point of view). But the story isn’t too focused on the disappearance and subsequent search-the book takes a turn after the first chapter and tells the story of a handful of women whose lives are affected, in big or small ways, by the girls’ disappearance. The story is framed around a pair of young girls who go missing on a geographically secluded Russian peninsula. I just finished this novel yesterday, and really enjoyed it.

Snyder proves he's unafraid to show both Bruce's good and bad qualities, something that serves the story well but may be troubling to some fans.Īn evil cabal is killing Gothan's citizens, an immortal assassin roams the streets, but what seems to bother Batman the most is that they're stealing his shtick. Snyder's first crack at Batman Bruce Wayne explores layers of the hero that remarkably may never have been explored before. This is abetted by Greg Capullo's art, evoking Rick Burchett penciling Greg Rucka's stories during the Batman: Murderer/Fugitive era it all serves to make Court of Owls feel more naturally in line with the Batman stories that came before.Ĭourt of Owls is no less psychologically complex than Black Mirror, however. Court of Owls, the first DC New 52 collection of the relaunched Batman title, has a more superheroic aesthetic, built in large part from Batman fighting a new foe over the rooftops of Gotham. Scott Snyder's Batman: The Court of Owls is a different kind of book than his Batman: The Black Mirror, but that's not a bad thing.īlack Mirror was a wonderful horror story, with gore lurking for the reader just beyond the next page.
